Indiana University is now part of the SIP.edu community by using SIP applications from Interactive Intelligence, of Indianapolis, Indiana.  Callers can reach IU faculty and staff by using their email addresses or 10-digit PSTN number followed by the corresponding @campus.edu address (see above).  The calls are directed to the university’s SIP proxy server and then forwarded to the SIP gateway.

Once the call reaches the gateway, the Interactive Intelligence application has a database tool that queries a SQL server database that currently contains the university directory.  Once the lookup for a user’s number is found, the call is sent out via an Aculab T-1 interface that is part of the gateway.  The SIP gateway also contains an Audiocodes card that performs SIP processing.
